Licensed C-36 installation of RP, double check, and PVB backflow assemblies for new construction, purveyor-mandated devices, and failed-device replacement across San Diego city and county.

California Backflow & Chlorination installs backflow prevention assemblies throughout San Diego County. We are a licensed C-36 plumbing contractor (#1117687) and ABPA-certified — the two credentials that matter when a backflow preventer is put into your water line.
We already test and service backflow assemblies across Southern California for dozens of mechanical, plumbing, and pipeline contractors. Installation is a natural extension of that work: we size the right device for your hazard level, install it to your water purveyor’s standards, and certify it on the spot so your system is compliant from day one.
We work throughout San Diego County — including Downtown San Diego, La Jolla, Point Loma, Mission Valley, Kearny Mesa, Clairemont, Pacific Beach, Sorrento Valley, Rancho Bernardo, Mira Mesa, Scripps Ranch, Carmel Valley, Chula Vista, National City, El Cajon, La Mesa, Santee, Spring Valley, Lemon Grove, Poway, Escondido, San Marcos, Vista, Oceanside, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Del Mar, Coronado, and Imperial Beach — within the service areas of the City of San Diego Public Utilities Department and county water districts including Helix, Otay, Sweetwater Authority, Padre Dam, Vallecitos, Olivenhain, and Vista Irrigation.

Reduced Pressure Principle Assembly — the highest level of protection, used for higher-hazard cross-connections such as commercial, industrial, and chemical or irrigation systems with injection.
Used for low-to-moderate hazard applications and commonly specified on fire-sprinkler supply lines.
Pressure Vacuum Breakers protect irrigation systems against back-siphonage and install above ground per placement rules; Spill-Resistant Vacuum Breakers cover specific back-siphonage applications.
New water services, irrigation systems, and fire lines are installed to your plans and your purveyor’s standard drawings before the meter is released or the building is occupied.
Whether the City of San Diego or your water district issued a notification letter, or an existing assembly failed and can’t be repaired, we handle it start to finish with an approved replacement device.
As a certified tester, we test every new assembly on the spot, then submit certified results to your water purveyor so the device is compliant from day one.
Every job is performed under C-36 Contractor License #1117687 and ABPA certification, backed by the credentials California requires.
We install your assembly, certify it at installation, and test it every year after — with no need to hand the job off to a second contractor.
Every certified result is formatted for direct submission to the City of San Diego or your county water district, with same-day filing whenever possible.
Plumbing, chlorination, and backflow work are handled by the same crew in one visit — trusted by Sygnos, APS, IPW, Davis, and JDS Mechanical across Southern California.
We ask a few questions about the job: device size, location, water purveyor, and whether you’re working from plans or a purveyor letter. If you have drawings or a notification letter, send them over.
We confirm the correct assembly type and size for your hazard level and pull an approved device that meets your purveyor’s requirements.
We install the assembly to code and to your purveyor’s standard drawings — typically as close to the meter as practical and ahead of any branches, valves, or regulators, with above-ground placement where required.
As a certified tester, we test the new assembly on the spot and provide certified results. New assemblies must be certified at the time of installation, so your device is compliant the day it goes in.
We submit the certified results to your water purveyor and remind you when your annual test comes due — so you stay in compliance year after year.
Yes. In California, installing or repairing a backflow preventer is plumbing work that legally requires a licensed C-36 contractor. California Backflow & Chlorination holds C-36 license #1117687.
Your water purveyor. The City of San Diego and county water districts require backflow assemblies on many commercial, industrial, multi-family, irrigation, and fire-service connections. The City of San Diego requires a backflow prevention assembly at each meter for all 1.5-inch-and-larger meters serving multi-family and commercial/industrial properties, and on dedicated irrigation meters regardless of size. Requirements vary by district, so check your notification letter or ask us.
It depends on your hazard level and your purveyor’s rules. RP assemblies are used for higher-hazard connections, double checks for lower hazard and many fire lines, and PVBs for irrigation back-siphonage. We confirm the correct type against your plans and your purveyor’s approved-device list.
Yes. A backflow assembly must be certified by an approved tester at the time of installation, annually after that, and any time it’s depressurized, relocated, or repaired. We test and certify on the spot.
