Chlorination for the Jobs LA Inspectors Hold Up

Any new or repaired potable water system has to be disinfected before it goes into service. For building plumbing, the California Plumbing Code (Section 609.9) calls for the system to be filled with a chlorine solution and held — typically 200 ppm for 3 hours or 50 ppm for 24 hours — then flushed until the water runs clean. New water services and mains follow AWWA C651.

We handle the chlorination, hold, dechlorination and flush in one visit, and coordinate bacteriological sampling through a state-certified lab whenever your inspector or water purveyor requires it. You get a chlorination report with residuals and hold times, ready to hand to your inspector, GC or purveyor.

FAQ

Common Questions

Do you work in my part of LA County?

Yes. We cover all of Los Angeles County — Los Angeles, Long Beach, Pasadena, Glendale, Burbank, Santa Monica, Culver City, the San Fernando and San Gabriel Valleys, the South Bay, Downey, Norwalk, Whittier and surrounding cities — plus Orange County and the Inland Empire.

What does my inspector need after new plumbing goes in?

Most inspectors want proof that the new or repaired water system was disinfected under the plumbing code — typically a chlorination report showing the chlorine concentration, hold time and flush, and sometimes a passing bacteriological test. We provide the report and can coordinate the lab sampling.

How long does it take?

Building systems are usually disinfected with a 3-hour hold at 200 ppm, so most building jobs are finished in a single visit. Water mains under AWWA C651 commonly use a 24-hour hold. If bacteriological sampling is required, lab results typically follow in one to two days.

Are you licensed for chlorination work?

Yes. We work under C-36 Contractor License #1117687 and DPR License #140023 (chlorination is regulated as microbial pest control in California), with ABPA-certified testers on staff.

How much does it cost?

Pricing is flat-rate, based on pipe size and footage. Call (858) 523-8113 or send the job through the quote form above and we’ll price it — usually the same day.
